Collages

For the past few years, I have amassed an archive of photographs of rocks that I have collected or wanted to collect. I gather these in the places that I have travelled to under the auspices of making new artwork.

I use these photographic fragments, shot at a close range, to build new rocky surfaces in my collages. While doing this, I am considering how the smaller rocks that I collect are fragments of a more massive rock feature, about transport, and erosion, and how these fragments are part of a much larger whole.  Like an archaeologist rebuilding artifacts from scrim found on a dig, I assemble and re-configure, making new, hypothetical rock formations.
